It finally happened!
After 32 weeks, more than eight months, the Townsend Smith Hospice Foundation (TSHF) weekly Catch the Ace raffle has come to a close. The elusive ace of spades was pulled on Friday, August 13th. The winners, a Milton-based CrossFit group known as the She-Beasts who workout out of Milton’s FirePower CrossFit gym, won a collective $27,941. The winnings combine the weekly raffle, as well as the big jackpot.
TSHF Events Coordinator Mallory Crippen is happy to see the group get the win.

The group got together on Friday afternoon in one of their backyard’s to celebrate the win. Crippen says the group popped champagne and received the big cheque from Catch the Ace committee member and sponsor, Laurie Day. She wasn’t sure what each planned on doing with the money or how much each member will receive, but she knows the money is going to good places.
As it stands, the plan appears to be putting the weekly raffle on hold. Crippen thinks the TSHF will bring Catch the Ace back in the New Year, but the goal is to give residents a break. While they were still crunching the numbers on Friday, it’s believed the Catch the Ace raffle raised upwards of $45,000 for the Foundation.

The Foundation feels the community would be better served by having palliative and respite care available in either Milton or Halton Hills.
The hospice might end up going in the recently announced Wilfrid Laurier University-Conestoga College joint campus, to be located off Tremaine Road by the Milton Velodrome. Learn all about that here.
