Milton Mayor Gordon Krantz has declared February Black History Month.
Mayor Krantz made the virtual proclamation from Town Hall.
This is the second year in a row, and second time ever, that the Town of Milton has made this proclamation. Last year’s event was the inaugural proclamation. Of course, that event happened prior to the pandemic.
The call was attended by more than 30 people, including residents, councillors, and other delegates. A video message from Milton MP Adam van Koeverden was played as he had a scheduling issue with the event.
Milton MPP Parm Gill was on the call. He says Milton’s diversity is one of its strengths.
Black History Month began in 1970 with roots dating back to 1926.
It became official in Canada in 1995.
