Four of the five federal candidates for Milton attended Tuesday night’s candidates forum held at Granite Ridge Golf Club by the Milton Chamber of Commerce.
Conservative candidate, Lisa Raitt, spoke to myFM about Monday’s announcement that the Conservatives will be launching a national autism strategy.
Raitt also lent comment to the carbon tax; saying that rather than using the carbon tax to reduce emissions, the best way is to use green technology – putting tools in the hands of Canadians and letting them retrofit their homes.
She adds that on a global stage we should be selling the technology that has brought us success, to the countries who need them.
Candidates were asked what they would do, if elected, about the CN intermodal hub and the Campbellville quarry.
Green Party candidate, Eleanor Hayward, says that the general public shouldn’t have to fight projects like the quarry.
As for the CN intermodal hub, Hayward believes that going forward we need to make sure there are strong federal regulations in terms of health, safety and the environment.
When the topic of emissions and climate change arose, Liberal candidate, Adam van Koeverden, said he wants to hear from kids – the voice of our future.
He gives youth advice.
van Koeverden adds that he wants to work with people to find solutions. He says that it’s really important to recognize the feasibility and ambition of each party.
The topic of a national pharmacare program was discussed amongst the candidates.
NDP candidate, Farina Hassan, talks about their plans if elected, saying they would add to the provincial government’s budget.
Hassan assures Canadians that regardless of their age or background they will get the full coverage they need and deserve.
PPC candidate Percy Dastur was not present. There was one empty podium on stage.
The federal election is on October 21st.
