On Monday July 29th, the provincial government announced that they are working towards a new needs based autism program.
The announcement came after the Minister of Children, Community and Social Services, Todd Smith, listened to the concerns of families with children with autism.
Melanie Fox is a local mother of a child with autism.
Fox says she’s happy Smith acknowledged the mistakes the province had made with this program but she has questions about the new program.
Fox stresses that there is urgency in getting this program rolled out now.
She tells us how she felt when she spoke with Minister Smith during one of his tour stops.
She acted as a delegate at Milton town council’s recent meeting where she encouraged council to write a letter to the province stressing the need for better services and funding for autism.
The province has set out a roll out date of April of next year.
