The Town of New Tecumseth has voted in favour of using the Banting Homestead property to house the new Banting Memorial High School.
A vote this week, of 5 – 3 was in favour of declaring the 25 acre parcel of land as surplus.
The Town and the Simcoe County District School Board will now begin negotiations for the sale of the land, which could include a land swap as one of the options.
The Board has prioritized replacing the 75-year-old Banting High School since 2015.
In 2021 the Ministry of Education approved $41.5 million in funding for a new school.
