The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) is looking for a suspect in a jewelry robbery in Burlington.
On Saturday, October 19th, at roughly 1:00 p.m., the elderly male victim had just parked his car at the Navy Club on Industrial Street when he was approached by two suspects in a vehicle. The suspect in the passenger seat expressed interest in a gold ring the victim was wearing and pulled it off his finger. During a brief struggle, the suspect also pulled a gold chain off of the man’s neck.
Strangely, the suspects then handed the victim two fake gold pieces of jewelry and fled the scene. The value of the stolen jewelry is estimated to be roughly $2500.
Fortunately, the elderly man did not suffer any injuries during the robbery.
Investigators are working to provide an accurate description of the suspects and their vehicle; however, there is concern that there may be additional victims and that the suspects are attempting to trade worthless fake jewelry to unsuspecting victims in exchange for their potentially valuable jewelry.
Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the 3 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777 ext. 2316.
