Pumpkin Spice Latte season is here!
Starbucks officially launched their annual fall drink this week. Other stores are following suit with similar items.
PSLs are the first sign of fall for a lot of people, and while we still have a week and a half to go, a lot of people are treating things like summer is over and fall is here.
Are you a big fan of fall? Why or why not?
Let me know!

What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – The history behind Milton’s Onley Lane and Ruhl Drive
Each week, we speak with Milton Historical Society President John Challinor about the origins of local street names. This week, we have streets named after a former television personality-turned-politician and a former local farmer! We’ll have two more street names next week.
Daily WTF – Sales of dog strollers outpace baby strollers in the country with the world’s lowest birth rate
South Korea is in crisis mode when it comes to their declining birth rate. We touched on this last week, talking about how they’re paying people up to $40,000 CAD to start a family in the country. The best way to get across just how bad things are going is looking at the baby stroller market. It seems dog strollers are actually outselling baby strollers in South Korea right now. That’s according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. The next time someone tells you to stop treating your dog like your child, show them this story! South Korea has apparently planted their flags in the ground: dogs are becoming modern day babies.
Daily Did You Know – Milton Film Festival holding more movie nights at Country Heritage Park

They’re now moving things inside to the Gambrel Barn and continuing the party. Friday, September 13th will be the first screening, with ‘Treasure’ being the movie shown. There’ll be another screening in two weeks, and then they’ll have a Halloween-themed screening of ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ next month. Milton soccer player officially signs to play in Italy
A small piece of Milton will be on full display in Italy. Michela Ionadi has officially inked her contract with Ternana Women in Italy’s Serie B soccer league. The teen has been quickly progressing ever since starting her journey with the Milton Magic back in 2009. She’s now a professional athlete and will play overseas. The team’s next game is this Sunday. It’s unknown if she’ll make it onto the pitch or not, but either way, good for her!
Mayor’s Golf Tournament raises over $230,000
It was another great year for the annual Mayor’s Golf Tournament! It was the 24th year for the event, with 241 golfers showing up at Granite Ridge Golf Club this year. They collectively raised more than $230,000, bringing the overall total over the years to $3.6 million. All that money supports United Way Halton & Hamilton, who then in turn, support local residents and families in need. Last year, over 21,000 Miltonians used services from a United Way-supported program, so that’s a lot of our neighbours getting help!
GOOD NEWS – Philly program marks the 100th price-restricted home sold toward goal of 1,000
Philadelphia residents are getting a lot of help through a new program. The ‘Turn the Key’ program aims at reducing house prices for residents, allowing people to afford homes they otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford. In a time of immense inflation, both in every day life and the housing market, the city is trying its best to help anyone who needs it. The example provided was the average price for a three bedroom, two bathroom house in Philadelphia is $280,000. After some paperwork through the program, it drops down to just over $180,000, saving a lot of money for a lot of people. In just over two years, they have officially sold 100 price-restricted homes, and their goal is to eventually make it 1000 by 2027, at the latest… And that is some good news!
James Earl Jones, Distinguished Actor and Voice of Darth Vader, Dies at 93
Yesterday was a sad day for a lot of people. It was reported and confirmed that longtime actor James Earl Jones had passed away. He was 93-years-old. Most in 2024 likely know him for his pipes, as he voiced many characters, including Darth Vader in Star Wars and Mufasa in The Lion King. He had a 60-year acting career, with a bunch of hits in theatre and film. We’ll miss him, and as he famously said, we’ll look at the stars.
PWHL teams announce names, logos ahead of 2024-25 season
The Professional Women’s Hockey League officially has branding! This was the big thing that people wanted out of the league heading into its second official season. In their inaugural year, all six teams had a city, but they didn’t have any names. If you were a Toronto sports fan, you were cheering for ‘PWHL Toronto’. It’s great that these women had an official professional league to play in, and the league did a fantastic job in such a short amount of time in its first year, but there was a sense of emptiness to the organizations we were cheering for. Well, that all changed yesterday. All six teams officially have new names and logos:
- Boston Fleet
- Minnesota Frost
- Montreal Victoire (Victoire de Montreal)
- New York Sirens
- Ottawa Charge
- Toronto Sceptres
What do you think of the new names? Which is your favourite? Are you going to buy a jersey this year? Let me know!
