Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has officially terminated an investigation into a fatal January collision in Burlington.
During a traffic stop for a reported speeding case, the suspect fled the scene in a pick-up truck. The vehicle was found a short distance away from the original scene, having crashed along the Brant Street off-ramp for the QEW. Two people in the truck were injured, and a 25-year-old man was killed. The driver of the vehicle was unharmed.
Following the collision, the case was taken over by the SIU. Director Joseph Martino reviewed video footage and felt the investigation should be discontinued.
“It was apparent on this record that neither officer did anything that could conceivably attract criminal sanction in connection with this matter,” says the notice.
The file has officially been closed.

Early in the morning on Monday, January 29th, a 25-year-old man died in a collision involving a pick-up truck that fled from Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) officers in Burlington.

Four people were reportedly in the truck. All four were taken to hospital, where one of them was pronounced dead.
The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online here.
