The Milton Menace have had a busy offseason!
After losing in the second-round to the Collingwood Blues, the local Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) team has been making efforts to improve for the future.
At the beginning of June, the Menace shipped off 20-year-old rotational goaltender Will Goumas to the Aurora Tigers in exchange for 19-year-old goaltender Glen Crandall and 19-year-old forward Sett Ursomarzo. Goumas played in 25 games for the Menace last season, earning a .894% save percentage. He’ll be replaced by the Tigers’ former starting goaltender in Crandall, who played in 47 games last season, also sporting an .894%. Ursomarzo was an effective scoring forward for Aurora, playing 33 games and tallying 25 points. Milton also included a PDF (Player Development Fee) in the trade.
Another acquisition was made by the Menace, this time with the Wellington Dukes. Milton received left-handed defenceman Graeme MacAuley from the Dukes. The Calgary-native (and Milton resident) was named an OJHL prospect all-star last year, playing in 40 games, and tallying 12 points. The Menace sent a PDF in the trade.
As for the rookie class, the Menace have made some signings. Known so far is Gavin Sheehan, a 17-year-old winger out of Waterdown. Known for his work with the U18 AAA Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs, Sheehan also played in one OJHL game last year, scoring a goal for the Burlington Cougars. The Menace describe him as a truculent player with lots of grit and a notable scoring touch.
The most interesting name officially added this offseason is the recently announced signing of Marcus Tryfon, son of team owner and president Jason Tryfon. The 16-year-old has played in four-total games for the Menace the last two seasons serving as an AP (Affiliation Procedural). The left-handed defenceman tallied 19 points in 24 games with the U18 AAA Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs, alongside Sheehan.
The Menace also had to move on from several graduates this offseason. Most notable is the franchise-leader for points Aidan Hughes. He’ll be heading off to Utica University in the NCAA DIII to play hockey. Menace captain Owen Forester will play for Yale University next year, and fellow defenceman Cory Liu is off to SUNY Canton to play college hockey.
In alumni news, the Menace shared that the team’s first-ever captain Jordan Stock has been given the Emerging Badger award for Brock University’s Men’s Hockey Team. In his first year of Canadian university hockey, Stock earned 10 points across 24 games.
