The Milton Menace had an up-and down weekend with a pair of low-scoring games.
The weekend started on Friday, January 20th when the Menace went down the road to battle the Oakville Blades at the Sixteen Mile Sports Centre. The game started with the Blades scoring in the first period. The Menace get all kinds of shots on net, but the period would end 1-0.
The second period was where the Menace got on the board. Owen Forester scored with assists from Aidan Hughes and Myles Perry. It was 1-1 after 40-minutes.
Heading into the third, the Menace were struggling to find twine, and that would prove fatal as the Blades scored the go-ahead goal with just 28-seconds left on the clock. Oakville beat Milton 2-1.
As mentioned, the Menace put the puck on net. Milton outshot Oakville 60-19. Blades goaltender Gavin McCarthy stopped 59 of 60 shots for an absurd save percentage of .983%. His Menace counterpart, Will Goumas, stopped 17 of 19 shots. His save percentage was at .894%.
The Menace then drove north to take on the first-place Collingwood Blues on Saturday, January 21st.
This game was nearly the opposite of the night before, with the Menace being the ones drastically outshot. That said, the Menace opened the scoring with Aidan Puley scoring on the powerplay with help from Justin O’Donnell and Cole Semeniuk. It was 1-0 Milton after 20-minutes.
The second was all Milton in terms of the scoreboard. Owen Forester potted his second of the weekend, with an assist from O’Donnell. Four minutes later, Jared Coccimiglio scored an unassisted goal to make it 3-0 Milton after two periods of play.
The Blues would get a goal back in the third, but it was not enough, as Milton beat Collingwood 3-1.
Forbes Anderson was in net for Milton. He stopped 47 of 48 shots, giving him a .979% save percentage.
After the weekend, the Menace are 25-12-1-2 in 39 games. They have 51 points, keeping them in fourth in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) North/West Conference.
The Menace will head to Brantford on Thursday, January 26th to take on the 99ers. Puck-drop at the Gretzky Main Arena will be at 7:30 p.m. The next Menace home game is on Friday, January 27th against the Georgetown Raiders. Milton Menace home tickets for this OJHL season can be found here.
