The President of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Board of Directors is a Milton Councillor!
Regional Councillor for Milton’s Ward One Colin Best has been acclaimed for a two-year term (2022 to 2024). Councillor Best has served as Halton Region’s representative on the AMO Board for two terms and Chair of the Board’s Regional and Single-Tier Caucus since 2018. He has also served as the Chair of AMO’s Health Task Force for the past year.
“I am honoured to be appointed as the President of the AMO Board of Directors for 2022-2024,” says Regional Councillor Colin Best. “Over the past four years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with elected officials from across the province to overcome challenges and accomplish many shared goals. I look forward to continuing our efforts together. Thank you to my colleagues for your continued support.”
AMO is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that works to support and enhance Ontario’s 444 municipalities to achieve shared goals and meet common challenges through advocacy, policy and consultative opportunities. It promotes the value of the municipal level of government as a vital and essential component of the Provincial and Federal Governments.
“On behalf of Regional Council, I congratulate Councillor Best on his appointment as President of the AMO Board of Directors,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. “Colin has worked tirelessly to advocate for municipalities and to protect and advocate for the interests of the Halton community, including ensuring provincially mandated growth is not burdened by existing Halton residents, advocating for access to universal broadband and more. I know he will continue to make a positive impact during his term as President.”
Since 2018, Councillor Best helped advance the priorities of Ontario municipalities, including important discussions for COVID-19 response and recovery efforts, as well as work to encourage further municipal funding support for 2022. He has continued to table concerns related to pressures of achieving mandated provincial growth targets without the required funding and infrastructure to support the needs and priorities of our residents. Councillor Best has also continued to stress the need for all communities, including rural Halton, to access reliable broadband internet. He has contributed to the development of a number of AMO advocacy positions and participated in numerous AMO Task Forces on behalf of Halton Region including health, housing, Indigenous Relations, planning and waste. Councillor Best will bring Halton’s voice to the Provincial Memorandum of Understanding table and contribute to AMO’s overall vision and commitment to advance common interests of all Ontario municipalities.
