The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) played a part in a pair of arrests by the Toronto Police Service.
This comes after a week-long crime spree involving multiple carjackings and an armed retail robbery across Etobicoke, downtown Toronto, and Halton Region. The first incident happened April 11th near Burnhamthorpe Road and Renforth Drive, when a man pulled a gun on store staff after stealing bottles of cologne. Several days later, a group of suspects carjacked a parked vehicle at gunpoint near North Queen Street and Kipling Avenue.
On Thursday, April 17th, HRPS officers located the stolen vehicle after a collision in Oakville, arresting a 26-year-old woman at the scene. Then, over the next several days, four more carjackings occurred – all involving a lone suspect armed with a gun or knife – in areas around Spadina Avenue, Islington Avenue, Royal York Road, and Mill Road. Toronto Police’s Hold Up Squad eventually identified a teenage boy, who was arrested Friday, April 25th with a replica handgun and other evidence in his possession.
The 17-year-old faces over 20 charges including robbery with a firearm, car theft, and breach of court orders.
Police say all stolen vehicles have since been recovered, though additional suspects from the earlier incidents remain at large.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Toronto Police or leave an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
