In celebration of Earth Week, Trees For Life is kicking off an ambitious goal to plant 150,000 native trees and shrubs across Canada in 2025.
That number is more than triple last year’s total of 40,000.
The national campaign begins Saturday, April 26th with a series of community planting events in the GTA, including right here in Milton at Area 8 Conservation Area. Once a quarry, Area 8 is being transformed into a thriving green space, and this weekend 100 volunteers will help plant over 300 native trees and shrubs to enhance local biodiversity and create new wildlife habitats.
The Milton event is a collaboration between Trees For Life, Conservation Halton, and the Town of Milton, supported by the Government of Canada and Polytainers Inc. Alongside the tree planting, families can enjoy a variety of Earth Week festivities including archery, live music, giant board games, bonfires, and food from the Blazing Kitchen Food Truck.
Since 2015, Trees For Life has planted over 3.3 million trees in Canada, helping to capture an estimated 30,000 tonnes of carbon annually and support a greener future.
