The federal election train is chugging along as we’re just 12 days out from the big day.
Milton is being split in half to create two separate ridings this time around. ‘Milton East’ will pair with ‘Halton Hills South’ for one of them, and the other will see ‘Milton West’ pair with ‘Burlington North’. Read more on the new ridings here.
Ahead of the election, we’re reaching out and interviewing local candidates to hear what they have to say on a number of topics suggested by listeners.
Adam van Koeverden is the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the now-halved Milton riding. He’s serving as the candidate for the Liberal Party of Canada in the Burlington North-Milton West riding.
Here’s our interview:
Audio PlayerINT – Nice and easy to start things off: give me an elevator pitch on yours (and the Party’s) platform in this election. What are your priorities?
Audio PlayerINT – Let’s touch on affordability. Obviously with your experience over the last 6+ years in your role, you might have a better understanding of this, but the cost of living is high in Milton. Housing, groceries – as you mentioned, everything that comes up on a credit card or statement. What can the federal government do to improve the cost of living?
Audio PlayerINT – I was saying yesterday with Kristina (Tesser Derksen) about how ‘tariff’ is a shoe-in for Word of the Year. It’s the buzzword of 2025. You’ve already spoken a lot on the financial side of things, but maybe dive into how Canada should handle the ongoing trade war?
Audio PlayerINT – Let’s move away from the financial talk for now. I know you’re an outdoorsy guy, so let’s talk about environmental issues. Two prominent local issues include the CN Intermodal Hub and the Campbellville Quarry. You’ve been the MP for Milton the last 6+ years, so you’re obviously fully aware of their impact on the community. Should you be re-elected as an MP for the area, do you plan on continuing the fight against these issues?
Audio PlayerINT – So, those are the issues that listeners submitted for this series of interviews. The next one is an open-ended one: is there anything you’d like to discuss that we haven’t asked about… Any issues, topics, concerns?
