The Halton Hills Public Library (HHL) has received a $14,500 grant from the Toronto Public Library Foundation’s Book Bash program, with support from the Muller Scholastic Endowment Fund for Canadian Children’s Literature.
The funding will bring the Book Bash Canadian Children’s Literature Festival to Halton Hills this October for a multi-day celebration of literacy, diversity, and inclusion.
The festival, themed A World of Stories: Accessible Literacy for Every Child, will feature Canadian authors, illustrators, and entertainers engaging young readers and their families through storytelling, creative workshops, and hands-on activities. The initiative is a reflection of HHPL’s mission to promote literacy in a welcoming environment while celebrating multicultural voices and ensuring accessibility for all.
“Receiving this grant has given us an incredible opportunity to create a festival that celebrates literacy in a way that is meaningful to all members of our community,” says Beverley King, Chief Librarian and CEO. “With this funding, we can provide engaging programs and experiences that ensure every child, regardless of background or ability, can experience the joy of reading.”
The timing of the festival is no coincidence – it will align with Canadian Library Month, Ontario Public Library Week, First Nations Public Library Week, PA Days in Halton schools, Art at the Library, and Culture Days.
We’ll have more information on the event as we get closer to October.
