Two Milton hockey players will have a legitimate shot at the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) following this weekend’s 2025 OHL Priority Selection.
Right-handed defenceman A.J. Underhill was drafted in the 6th round (122nd overall) by the Brantford Bulldogs, while forward Alex Taylor went in the 11th round (208th overall) to the Owen Sound Attack. Both players suited up for the U16 AAA Halton Hurricanes this past season and were key contributors to a dominant squad. Underhill also served for the Menace as an affiliated player, but did not see any OJHL action at 15-years-old.
Underhill brought size and poise to the Hurricanes’ blue line, while Taylor was a reliable offensive threat. Their selections are part of a strong showing for the Halton program, which saw six players drafted in total—a testament to the development efforts of Head Coach Jake Wood and his staff. The other Hurricanes drafted were Aleksandr Sementsov (1st round, Barrie Colts), Cole Vreugdenhil (5th round, North Bay Battalion), Colton D’Amico (8th round, North Bay), and Lucas Ward (9th round, Erie Otters).
This year’s draft was more competitive than ever, thanks to a new NCAA rule change allowing Canadian Hockey League players to retain NCAA Division I eligibility—broadening the talent pool and making each pick more meaningful. The Hurricanes’ standout season, which included titles at the USHL American Cup, OMHA Championship, and a berth at the OHL Cup, clearly paid off.
On top of the draft news, the hometown Milton Menace are OJHL West Conference Champions. Read more here.
