The Milton Menace are off to the OJHL Finals!
Coming into the weekend, the Menace found themselves up 2-1 in their seven-game series with the Leamington Flyers.
Game four took place on Friday, April 11th at the Milton Memorial Arena, in front of 1235 people in attendance.
It was 16-year-old Ryder Cali who opened the scoring for Milton. His 2nd of the postseason was assisted by Madden MacDougall and Markus Hicks. Milton carried that 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
In the second period, Leamington would get on the board, tying the game 1-1. By the end of the frame, the Flyers were outshooting the Menace 26-12.
Milton’s offence woke up in the final period, with Ashtyn Pacheco buring his 3rd of the OJHL Playoffs, assisted by Cali and Spencer Vandenberg. That goal gave the team enough space to work with, as Milton would get two empty net goals from Cali and Captain Graeme MacAuley to complete the 4-1 win.
Carter Bickle was in net for the dub. He stopped 37 of 38 shots to get the .973% save percentage.
Game five took place on Sunday, April 14th at the Nature Fresh Farms Recreation Centre.
The first period was scoreless, with Leamington leaving it all on the ice, outshooting the Menace 18-7.
Milton would then take control in the second period, outshooting the Flyers 15-9. Ashtyn Pacheco would continue his hot week, scoring his 4th of the postseason, assisted by Cole Semeniuk and Owen Kindree. One minute later, Ivan Fabjan found the back of the net. His 10th of the Playoffs was assisted by Captain Graeme MacAuley and Nathan Catalano. Milton carried a 2-0 into the final frame.
Shutting things down in the period, it almost looked like the Menace would walk out with the shutout. However, Leamington would score with just over 30 seconds to go. That’d be all, though, as the Menace would win 2-1, beating the Leamington Flyers in five games to become the OJHL West Conference Champions – a first in the franchise’s young history.
Carter Bickle was the goaltender for the Menace once again. He faced 39 shots, stopping 38 of them for the .974% save percentage.
Milton will now face the Trenton Golden Hawks in the OJHL Finals.
