The North Halton Girls Hockey Association (NHGHA) has been named one of five Regional Winners in the 2025 Kruger Big Assist program.
Their goal is to remove barriers and make hockey more accessible and inclusive for girls in Halton Hills, Milton, and surrounding communities.
In order to do that, the NHGHA needs the community’s support as it competes for the program’s $75,000 Grand Prize, funding that would allow the organization to expand programs, break down financial barriers, and keep more girls engaged in the game they love. They’ve already won a $25,000 prize.
Kruger Products, in partnership with TSN, launched the Kruger Big Assist to help minor hockey associations across Canada break down the barriers that prevent participation in the game. The $75,000 Grand Prize will allow one deserving association to reinvest in their programs and make hockey more equitable for all.
Voting for the Kruger Big Assist Grand Prize is now open, where Canadians are encouraged to cast their vote to help determine the national winner.
The NHGHA hopes to use the Grand Prize to expand grassroots programs, subsidize registration fees, and continue building leadership opportunities for female athletes.
“Research shows that a significant percentage of girls stop participating in sports as they age,” the association shared in their submission. “We are committed to reversing this trend by offering programs and initiatives that keep girls engaged and motivated.”
Through leadership development for girls aged 13-18, increasing female representation in coaching roles, and partnerships like the NHL/NHLPA First Shift program, North Halton is working to ensure every young girl has a place in hockey, regardless of background, financial situation, or experience level.
The North Halton community, Milton, Halton Hills, and all who believe in supporting female athletes, are encouraged to vote and help bring the Grand Prize home.
“Hockey is more than just a sport in North Halton; it is a platform for female athletes to grow, develop leadership skills, and build lasting friendships,” adds the association. “We aim to create a welcoming and supportive environment that encourages more kids to play hockey, regardless of their background or circumstances.”
Voting ends on Friday, April 11th at 5:00 p.m.
