
Inside the Milton Velodrome, at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre
Milton’s Mattamy National Cycling Centre hosted its first national event of the year this past weekend.
Nearly 90 athletes from across Canada competed for U17 and Junior Canadian Championship titles.
The event saw standout performances from several young cyclists who dominated both individual and team events. Montreal’s Elodie Malois, Waterloo’s Jake McLean, London’s Izzy Downing, and Boucherville’s Sandrine Veilleux each collected more than seven national titles in their categories. Ottawa’s Carter Deveer claimed an outstanding seven Canadian championships in the U17 men’s division, while Woodstock’s Alexander Gies captured five gold medals.
St. Thomas cyclist Alexandra Fangeat also made headlines, moving up from U17 to Junior and setting a new world record in the individual pursuit.
Event organizer Jacob Graper praised the athletes for their talent and energy, calling the championships a showcase of Canada’s next generation of cycling stars.
The next event on Cycling Canada’s calendar is the Canadian Gravel Championships, set for June 15th.
