The Halton District School Board (HDSB) is inviting families, students, staff, and community members to an insightful discussion as part of their Director’s Panel Series.
The upcoming session is titled Strengthening Schools Through Kindness, Connection and Community. Led by Director of Education Curtis Ennis and Human Rights & Equity Advisor Pardeep Nagra, the session will explore the importance of fostering kindness in schools and workplaces. This theme is a key focus of the HDSB’s 2024-2028 Multi-Year Strategic Plan, which emphasizes the role of kindness, connection, and community in creating an inclusive and thriving educational environment.
“This session presents an exciting opportunity to dive deeper into how centring a culture of Kindness, Connection and Community plays an integral role in strengthening our schools and workspaces,” says Curtis Ennis, Director of Education for the Halton District School Board. “By modeling empathy and respect in our daily actions, and striving to create learning and working spaces where everyone feels a genuine sense of belonging, we create a supportive environment and strengthen relationships among students, staff, families and the broader community. We look forward to coming together to discuss how these efforts help ensure that everyone in the HDSB community feels valued, supported and empowered to succeed.”
Panelists for the event include Amy Collard, Chair of the HDSB, along with HDSB students and staff. Special guest Dr. John-Tyler Binfet, PhD, a Professor of Education at the University of British Columbia, will also join the discussion. Dr. Binfet will share his research on how students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 define and demonstrate kindness in learning environments.
The conversation will highlight how centering a culture of kindness can positively impact student and staff success, well-being, and a genuine sense of belonging. The panelists will discuss real-life examples of how kindness is integrated into schools and workplaces, ensuring students have the right conditions to thrive.
It will take place virtually on Monday, April 7th, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., with a livestream available here.
No registration is required.
