The federal election is just over a month away, and Milton residents will have to deal with a major change to the local riding.
With the upcoming election, Milton will be branching off into two separate ridings:
- Burlington North—Milton West
- According to Elections Canada, the riding will be “that part of the Town of Milton lying southwesterly of a line described as… commencing at the intersection of the southeasterly limit of said town (Lower Base Line West) and Regional Road 25; thence northwesterly along said road, Ontario Street South and Ontario Street North to Steeles Avenue East; thence southwesterly along said avenue to Martin Street; thence northwesterly along said street and Regional Road 25 to the northerly limit of said town (5 Side Road).”
- Milton East—Halton Hills South
- According to Elections Canada, the riding will be “that part of the Town of Milton lying northeasterly of a line described as… commencing at the intersection of the southeasterly limit of said town (Lower Base Line West) and Regional Road 25; thence northwesterly along said road, Ontario Street South and Ontario Street North to Steeles Avenue East; thence southwesterly along said avenue to Martin Street; thence northwesterly along said street and Regional Road 25 to the northerly limit of said town (5 Side Road).”
The nomination process closes on Monday, April 7th. An official list of candidates for both ridings will be confirmed on Wednesday, April 9th.
Parties have been busy confirming their candidates. At the time of writing, here’s who we know will be running in the two ridings:
Burlington North—Milton West
- Adam van Koeverden (Liberal Party)
- Nadeem Akbar (Conservatives)
- Naveed Abdul Ahmed (NDP)
- Charles Zach (PPC)
Milton East—Halton Hills South
- Kristina Tesser Derksen (Liberal Party)
- Parm Gill (Conservatives)
- Muhammad Riaz Sahi (NDP)
- Walter Hofman (PPC)

Elections Canada says that Advanced Voting will take place on the following days:
- Friday, April 18th
- Saturday, April 19th
- Sunday, April 20th
- Monday, April 21st
The election is set for Monday, April 28th.
