Milton Transit’s successful 2024 has led to planned growth moving forward.
Ridership surpassed one million trips in 2024. It was a 73% increase in ridership compared to the previous year. According to an annual report to Council, this surge in conventional and on-demand transit usage reflects Milton’s growing population and increased demand for public transportation.
Council has prioritized transit investment as part of the 2023-2027 Strategic Plan, paving the way for significant improvements in 2025. Among the key initiatives planned is the introduction of the town’s first Diesel-to-Battery Electric Bus in summer 2025, a move toward more sustainable transit solutions. Later in the year, Milton Transit will expand its services with the launch of Sunday service, extended weekday evening hours until 10:30 p.m., and new routes reaching the Boyne neighbourhood.
“Milton Transit continues to help more people get to work, school and other important locations,” says Kristene Scott, Commissioner, Corporate Services. “Adding service on Sundays, later on weekday evenings, and in new areas will help us keep pace with Milton’s increased mobility needs and smart density goals.”
Additionally, work will continue on developing a new Transit Garage Facility to support long-term transit growth and infrastructure needs.
Ridership is expected to continue to increase by up to 25% in 2025 due to ongoing population growth and the expansion of post-secondary institutions.
