The Milton Menace managed to accomplish something they failed to do last year.
When the Menace took on the Burlington Cougars in the first round of the 2024 OJHL playoffs, they went up 3-0 ahead of game four. Instead of pulling off the series sweep, Burlington was able to get a win in game four, before the Menace clinched the series win at home in game five. One year later, the Menace found themselves in the exact same position heading into game four, but could they pull off the sweep?
The first period of game four was scoreless at the two teams managed to trade 16 shots apiece.
In the second period, Madden MacDougall would bury his 6th of the postseason, assisted by Luke Johnston and Graeme MacAuley. That was quickly followed up by a goal from Ivan Fabjan, assisted by Ashtyn Pacheco. The two goal lead wouldn’t last long, as the Cougars would back-to-back within a minute of each other. The game would be tied 2-2 heading into the second intermission.
It was Fabjan who scored the go-ahead goal early in the third. His 5th of the playoffs was assisted by Nathan Catalano. The Menace would then get some insurance from their moose on skates, as Johnston was able to score his 4th of the postseason, assisted by MacDougall and MacAuley. The Menace would win 4-2, and sweep the Cougars 4-0 in the first round.
Carter Bickle was in net for the Menace. He stopped 33 of 35 shots, giving him the .942% save percentage and win.
Milton will now head to the second round of the OJHL playoffs. Their match-up hasn’t been officially announced. We’ll keep you updated when we know more.
