The 2025 provincial election less than two weeks away!
We’re reaching out to all six registered candidates in Milton for one-on-one interviews. Each candidate in Milton has been offered the same opportunity as the others: a chance to answer the same questions as the rest, with each one breaking down a concern or issue affecting Miltonians. These interviews are being done as a first come, first served basis and are published shortly after being recorded.
Our third interview is with Milton’s current Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP), Zee Hamid of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario. Residents know Hamid as the incumbent in this election, having won the 2024 by-election last year. He also served as a Councillor in Milton from 2010 – 2022. He was available by phone for this interview.
Here’s our interview:
INT – Even though you’re the incumbent, I’ll still ask you for an elevator pitch on your platform/campaign.
Audio PlayerINT – You addressed the tariffs already, but for the sake of equality in asking everyone the same questions, I’ll ask you if you have more thoughts on this trade war that has sprung from these tariffs?
Audio PlayerINT – This next one is about transit. Now, I’m sure with your time as a Milton Councillor and your current term as the MPP, you’ve heard from a lot of residents about transit. A big focus for Miltonians is the All-Day, Two-Way GO service. Where do you stand on transit in Milton?
Audio PlayerINT – Let’s talk about education. The sector has seen a lot of cuts over the years. My wife works for the HDSB, so I’ve seen these cuts first-hand. Milton has also had its lack of space over the years. I know Parm Gill was a big advocate for building new schools. What’s your plan on helping education in Milton?
Audio PlayerINT – I always try to give the local environmental groups a voice in these interviews. People fighting against things like the Campbellville Quarry and the CN Intermodal Hub. Do you plan on addressing these concerns and helping these people should you be re-elected in two weeks?
Audio PlayerINT – If you asked the average Miltonian about any issues or concerns they might have, there’s a good chance they bring up the growth of Milton. The provincial government has mandated that Milton continues to grow rapidly, with a certain population number expected by 2051. I know you’ve now worked with the Town as a Councillor, and with the Province as an MPP. What’s your stance on this expected development, as well as the needed local infrastructure that coincides with that growth?
Audio PlayerINT – Before I let you go, is there anything else you’d like to address? Any concerns or issues we might have missed that you want discussed?
