The Milton Menace had a great weekend!
On Friday, January 24th, the Menace welcomed in the first place Leamington Flyers. The Menace have had a hard time with the Flyers this season, coming off the back of a playoff series loss to Leamington last spring.
It was the Menace who scored first. Luke Johnston continued his hot stretch, scoring his 25th of the year near the end of the first period, assisted by Madden MacDougall and Justin Dezoete. It was 1-0 Milton after one period of play.
In the second period, Leamington would get one back. That was quickly followed up by a goal from Dezoete. It was his 6th of the year since joining the team from the OHL, and it was assisted by Johnston and MacDougall. Milton carried a 2-1 lead into the final frame.
Johnston would keep the scoring goal in the third period. He buried an empty netter to seal the win. His 26th got help from Spencer Vandenberg and Captain Graeme MacAuley. The Menace beat the Flyers 3-1.
In net for the Menace was Carter Bickle. He stopped 23 of 24 shots, giving him a .958% save percentage.
Next up for the Menace was a road game in Buffalo.
Captain Graeme MacAuley would get on the scoreboard first. His 7th of the year was assisted by Nathan Catalano and Dean Deligeorgis. That would be the lone goal in the opening frame, giving the Menace a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
In the second period, Madden MacDougall would score early. His 18th was assisted by Ryder Cali and MacAuley. The Jr. Sabres would get two back to tie things up, but Justin Dezoete would answer the call. His 7th of the season would get help from MacDougall and Ivan Fabjan. Just 36 seconds later, Spencer Vandenberg would net his 9th of the year, with assists from Cali and Kyle Burton. That gave Milton a 4-2 lead with one period to go.
Buffalo would make it interesting in the third, scoring early. But Markus Hicks would put the nail in the coffin. His 2nd goal was assisted by MacDougall and Ashtyn Pacheco. Milton would beat Buffalo 5-3.
In net for Milton was Carter Bickle once again. He stopped 24 of 27 shots, giving him the .888% save percentage.
The Menace now have the work week off to reset. They’re preparing for a road game in Burlington against the Cougars on Friday, January 31st. Puck drop at the Central Arena is set for 7:30 p.m.
They don’t return home for a while, with the next home game set for Sunday, February 9th. Game time against the Toronto Patriots at the Milton Memorial Arena is set for 1:00 p.m. – due to the Super Bowl being on that day. Buy your tickets for any/all home games here.
