It was status quo for the Milton Menace on Friday night, but that changed on Sunday.
On Friday, January 17th, the Menace welcomed in the Niagara Falls Canucks for another match-up. Things were rolling early on for Milton, as Madden MacDougall buried his 17th goal of the season 10 minutes into the game. It was assisted by Ashtyn Pacheco and Marco Costante. One minute later, Luke Johnston found the back of the net. His 20th of the year was assisted by Justin Dezoete and Captain Graeme MacAuley. Costante then got his own goal, with help from Kyle Burton and Alexandr Siletskiy. The Canucks would get one back, making 3-1 Milton after 20 minutes of action.
Niagara would bring things within one in the second period, but Ivan Fabjan answered right back. His 12th was assisted by Tristan Tremble and Owen Kindree. It was 4-2 Milton heading into the final frame.
Spencer Vandenberg scored his 8th of the season in the third period, assisted by Pacheco and Dezoete. That helped the Menace get the 5-2 win over Niagara.
Carter Bickle played most of the game, and was credited with the win. He stopped 23 of 25 shots for the .920% save percentage. Austin McKillop filled in for just over two minutes of gameplay in the first period, facing zero shots.
The Menace then held a home game on Sunday, January 19th against one of their biggest adversaries, the Collingwood Blues.
Heading into the game, the Menace were looking to get some payback after two lacklustre performances against the Blues earlier in the season.
The first period was a fairly even battle, with the Menace giving up a shorthanded goal before the end of the frame. Collingwood would take a 1-0 lead into intermission.
In the second period, Luke Johnston would quickly tie things up. His 21st of the year was assisted by Justin Dezoete and Ivan Fabjan. The Blues would score two unanswered goals in the second to make it 3-1 Collingwood after 40-minutes of action.
Things would get explosive in the final period. Johnston would net his 22nd of the season early on, with Dezoete and Captain Graeme MacAuley getting the helpers. Collingwood would get one back a couple minutes later, but that would only last a few minutes as Johnston would score two more to things up at 4-4. His four goal performance would get lost in the shuffle, as Collingwood would regain the lead, and then bury a dagger. The Blues beat the Menace 6-4 when it was all said and done.
Carter Bickle was in net for the loss. He stopped 29 of 35 shots, giving him an .828% save percentage.
The Menace have a few days to hit the reset button. They take on the Caledon Admirals on Thursday, January 23rd at the Mayfield Recreation Complex. Puck drop is listed for 7:30 p.m.
They return home on Friday, January 24th to play the Leamington Flyers. Game time listed for 7:30 p.m. at the Milton Memorial Arena. Buy your tickets for any/all home games here.
