After a busy Friday, Halton Healthcare is reminding residents of their options when it comes to emergency services.
All three hospitals within the Halton Healthcare umbrella were experiencing high patient volumes ahead of the weekend. That includes Milton District Hospital, Georgetown Hospital, and Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. While staff will treat anyone and everyone who walks through those doors, not every patient necessarily needs to attend the emergency room.
That’s why Halton Healthcare issued a notice on Friday, January 3rd that provided a list of other available options for residents seeking medical care that might not qualify as an emergency.
“Remember, our hospitals are always here to provide emergency medical care,” reads the page. “You may be able to use another healthcare option to get the care you need more quickly if your condition is not urgent.”
Alternative healthcare options include:
- Calling your family doctor or nurse practitioner and talking to your pharmacist
- Visiting an urgent care centre or walk-in clinic
- Visit Health 811 online or call 811 for access to a Registered Nurse 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
