The Town of Milton finalized their 2025 budget earlier this month, and that’s good news for Milton Fire and Rescue Services (MFRS).
With the new budget, Milton’s Council approved the funding of 12 additional firefighters, one platoon chief, and one fire prevention officer. This is being done in support of the 2021-2031 Fire Master Plan.
The funding also builds on Council’s support since 2021 that has expanded MFRS staffing by 41 full-time positions, which operate alongside a part-time complement. This growth is significant because it has enhanced Milton Fire’s capacity in firefighting, communications, safety, prevention, training, and leadership.
“I want to thank Town Council and senior leadership for the ongoing commitment to deliver on our Fire Master Plan,” says Peter Gatto, Chief, Milton Fire Department. “As we send multiple vehicles out on every call, this continued support helps us maintain our focus on the safety of our community and fire crews.”
Support in the 2025 budget will mean MFRS can:
- Improve emergency response times in all urban and rural areas
- Increase proactive commercial and multi-residential fire inspections, to protect lives and property
- Implement next-generation 911 technology for enhanced fire communication
Budget commitments align with guidance in the 2021-31 Fire Master Plan, which provides Council and senior staff with a strategic planning framework for delivering fire services as Milton grows.
The Fire Master Plan includes a Community Risk Assessment that evaluates local needs, populations and building stock to guide decisions about service levels.
