An Oakville man is among a group that has been arrested for fraud in the Brantford and Waterloo areas.
Through a joint investigation by Brantford Police Services and Waterloo Regional Police Services, four suspects have been arrested and charged with an organized renovation and mortgage fraud targeting a vulnerable senior residing in Brantford resulting in the loss of her home.
The incident occurred between 2021 and 2022, resulting in four predatory mortgages, ultimately leading to mortgage enforcement of the home in January of 2024. The suspects are accused of defrauding the victim of roughly $374,000.
As a result of the joint investigation, the following individuals have been arrested and charged as follows:
- 29-year-old man from Oakville
- 34-year-old man from Hamilton
- 60-year-old woman from Toronto
Each stand charged with one count of Fraud, over $5,000 and Possession Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000, contrary to the Criminal Code.
A 39-year-old man from Brampton stands charged with one count of Swearing Purported Affidavit, contrary to the Criminal Code.
A reminder was issued to the public to be wary of unsolicited people knocking at your door and use caution when asked to sign any documents that you are unsure of. You’re also reminded to check on vulnerable seniors in the community to help protect them against fraudsters attempting to take advantage of vulnerable persons.
