Ontario’s police watchdog has made a decision on a fatal shooting involving the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS).
Early in the morning of Saturday, March 2nd, HRPS officers responded to a 911 call from an Oakville resident. The caller was reported stabbed by another resident of the house. They struck the man across the head with a frying pan, but the attack continued.
Officers arrived on scene and entered the home. The man was ordered to get off the resident, but the man continued his attack. One officer discharged his firearm five times, and another officer discharged seven rounds. The 29-year-old man was declared dead at the scene.
On his assessment of the evidence, Special Investigations Unit (SIU) Director Joseph Martino determined there were no reasonable grounds to believe that any officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the man’s death.
The case has been closed.
