Would you attend the next championship parade in Toronto?
Many people are talking about the parade in Kansas City, which saw a shooting breakout, injuring 21 people and killing one. It’s similar to what we saw when the Toronto Raptors held their championship parade in 2019.
A lot of Milton residents went to Downtown Toronto to see Kyle and the gang celebrate. If the Leafs, Jays or Raptors were to win a championship in the future, would you attend the parade?
Let me know!

ICYMI – Halton Catholic students sending letters to veterans for Valentine’s Day
A sweet story from yesterday. Students from the Halton Catholic District School Board sent letters to veterans across the world, either active or retired. The HCDSB is actually the largest distributor of letters for this program in Canada.
Daily WTF – Law would create official pronunciation of Concord, New Hampshire
This is so weird when you think about it. So, New Hampshire state officials are arguing about a bill that would declare how to specifically pronounce the name of a city. Apparently some residents say Con-CORD, while others say it more like Con-Kid (more like ‘conquered’ with an east coast accent). The district representative who has proposed this bill feels this is no different than naming a state fruit or a state bird. I’d love to know how people would react if Premier Doug Ford and the rest of the members of provincial parliament sat around discussing the official pronunciation of Toronto. Imagine that! “It’s ‘churonnah’, not ‘Tor-On-To’.” People would go insane! Maybe they could use their time for something more important, but that’s just me…
Daily Did You Know – Help name Milton’s newest school
If you have an idea for what the new school at Kennedy Circle should be named, give your suggestion! The last time this happened, the school became Rattlesnake Point Public School, named after the conservation area. You can name this new school after a person, a place or a thing, so long as it has a tie to Milton and the surrounding area. Important historical figures can also apply, which is how we ended up with Viola Desmond Public School. You have until March 12th to submit your suggestion!
Beware of Temu: Thousands of USB charger adaptors recalled for electric shock hazard
Temu has blown up in the past few months, including having a Super Bowl commercial. It’s an online discount store that sells seemingly everything at low prices. Thing is, like other online discount stores such as Wish.com, the quality of these items are pretty suspect. Enter in this latest recall. More than 3,300 USB charger adaptors have been recalled due to being labelled as a shock hazard. They were sold across Canada from May 2023 to December 2023. People are asked to stop using the products and return them to Temu immediately.
Toronto’s ROM Is Getting A Huge Makeover
The Royal Ontario Museum is one of the best things you can check out while in Toronto. My wife and I seem to go at least once a year. It’s a fun experience, and they even do late-night events for younger crowds. Good news: it’s about to get even better! They’ll be spending $130 million to renovate their main floor. While that happens, they’ll remain open and even allow visitors to check out the bottom level for free. The construction is expected to last for three years, and the work will begin by the end of the month.
Milton home declared historic at latest Council meeting
Milton has a lot of beautiful old homes. The reason why is because a lot of them have been preserved through the Ontario Heritage Act. On Monday, Milton’s Town Council unanimously agreed to protect one more old home. Known as the Thomas-Coxe House, 168 Martin Street was built in 1894 by Esquesing Township Councillor Thomas Coxe. He sold the home just a few years later, and it’s stood the test of time ever since. The home is gorgeous, and has benefitted from a few updates over the years, as well as a fantastic front garden. And now, it’ll hopefully stand for many more years to come.
Public meeting on community safety being held in March
If you have thoughts or questions on community safety, you can attend a public meeting! It’s being hosted by Milton’s Town Councillor for Ward 3, Adil Khalqi, as well as the Halton Police, MADD, and Crime Stoppers. It’s scheduled for Saturday, March 2nd at the Milton Sports Centre. Any and all are welcome!
Katy Perry Reveals She’s Leaving American Idol
Believe it or not, it’s been seven seasons since Katy Perry joined American Idol. That’s one (!!!) shy of Paula Abdul, which blows my mind to think about. She made the announcement on Jimmy Kimmel this week. Why is she leaving the show? She wants the freedom to travel the world, and then, potentially, return to making music once again. People in 2024 forget how MASSIVE Katy Perry was when she was on top, and if she can bottle that magic once again, we’re in store for some good pop music. Can’t wait!
The Tooth Fairy gets more generous every year — but is $100 too much to give a child?
Inflation has affected everyone, but apparently, it’s also affecting parents when it comes to the Tooth Fairy. Just like real estate, wealthy parents have come in and ruined the market for the rest of us. “The Tooth Fairy” is reportedly giving certain children $100 a tooth. On top of the money, these children are also getting things like fancy jewelry. According to reports, $20 is more common for people. The average amount is even lower than that, with a 2023 poll saying a tooth is worth roughly $6.23 in today’s Tooth Fairy Market. That’s up nearly one dollar from 2022, and a 25-year high. How much do you give your kid for losing their teeth? Do you even play along with the Tooth Fairy gimmick? Let me know!
Anonymous donation of first edition Harry Potter to animal charity could sell for thousands of dollars
Someone made a serious donation to an animal shelter, and they might not have even realized it. The animal charity RSPCA Isle of Wight branch in Godshill, England received a first-edition copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone as a donation recently. The organization took the book in for appraisal, and they might receive thousands of dollars for it. It’s now heading to auction, and all money raised will support the 50 pets currently in care at the animal shelter. It was an anonymous donation, so the shelter doesn’t even know who to thank! Some heroes don’t wear capes… sometimes they own early copies of very famous books.
