A Georgetown man has been arrested following a fatal house fire in Georgetown.
On Wednesday, February 7th, emergency services responded to a residential fire on Victoria Street. Members of the Halton Hills Fire Department removed one occupant from the home. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The fire destroyed two semi-detached dwellings.
Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) officers have since arrested and charged 38-year-old Christopher Dayfoot. He was the common law partner of the deceased and also resided at this address. He is charged with:
- Arson – Disregard for Human Life
The accused appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice on Friday, February 9, and has been remanded into custody pending a future court date.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office. This incident also remains under investigation by the Halton Regional Police Service’s Major Crime Unit. One person is dead following a house fire in Georgetown.
On Wednesday February 7th, at roughly 5:20 a.m., emergency services were called to a residential home on Victoria Street in Georgetown. When the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) arrived on scene, they noted that the home was fully engulfed in flames and the fire was spreading to a neighbouring address. Neighbouring homes were evacuated by police and the fire was extinguished by the Halton Hills Fire Department.
One woman living in the house that originally caught on fire was pronounced dead at the scene. The HRPS says they will not identify the woman at this time. No other occupants were found in the home and no further injuries were reported to police.
Members of the Halton Regional Police Criminal Investigations Branch and Major Crime Bureau are currently investigating the circumstances of this incident.
