A former Prime Minister, and a man connected to Earl Grey tea and the Grey Cup! Milton Historical Society President John Challinor will have two more local street name origins next week.
Daily WTF – Charlotte the stingray, possibly impregnated by shark, about to give birth
Baby shark, doo-doo, doo-doo, doo-doo! This is a weird story. So, a zoo in North Carolina discovered something was up with their stingray. Charlotte had developed a mass. They thought it might be cancer, and so they got her checked. She was healthy! Healthy and pregnant… Thing is, she’s the lone stingray in the tank. She actually shares the tank with two male sharks. Zoo officials believe that either they will witness a SUPER RARE phenomenon where female stingrays fertilize their own eggs and create a clone of themselves OR they will see a new hybrid stingray/shark animal. Sounds like the start of a sci-fi horror movie, to be honest.
Billy Joel Hits Hot 100 for First Time Since 1997
Even in 2024, Billy Joel is a rockstar. The Piano Man released a new song this month. Titled ‘Turn The Lights Back On‘, the song has entered the Hot 100 music chart. The last time Billy Joel was on that chart, it was 1997! It was a cover of Bob Dylan’s ‘To Make You Feel My Love‘. Joel’s newest single will debut at 62, and could climb even higher.
Daily Did You Know – Nominations open for Milton Youth Awards
If your kid is a superstar, you can nominate them for one of ten Milton Youth Awards. They’re for students in grades 7-12. They include ‘Athlete of the Year’ and ‘Artist of the Year’. You have just over a month to apply (deadline is March 15th).
Beyoncé goes country!
This was unexpected! Announced during the Super Bowl, Beyoncé has released two country singles. ‘Texas Hold Em‘ and ‘16 Carriages‘ will be part of a full blown country album that come out on March 29th. Considering she’s from Houston, Texas, this is probably something she’s been aiming to do for a while. And she does it well!
Here’s when Daylight Saving Time returns in Canada in 2024
You might be looking outside each morning, seeing it get brighter and brighter by the day, and wonder “when will the clocks spring forward?” Soon! Daylight Saving Time will return on Sunday, March 10th. The clocks will jump ahead by one hour at 2:00 a.m. What does that mean? Well, if you like these 7:20 sunrises, they’ll come earlier and earlier leading up to the day, and then all of a sudden, they’ll be one hour later! Good news with that, though, is that sunsets will also happen one hour later. As a morning show host who’s usually in bed by 7:00 p.m., I’ll BAH HUMBUG all over that noise. Clocks then fall back an hour on Sunday, November 3rd.
People are still talking about THAT moment between Usher and Alicia Keys
It seems Usher has a reputation for being ‘Mr. Steal Yo Girl’. There were issues with Keke Palmer pretty recently. Then, during the Super Bowl Halftime Show, Usher and Alicia Keys got real close during a live rendition of ‘My Boo’. This made a lot of people freak out, one of those people NOT being Keys’ husband, producer and rapper Swizz Beats. He praised the performance and brought attention to Keys’ bright red dress. Good man! Also, when you live in the house that those two own, you probably feel pretty secure in your relationship.
Airline starts weighing passengers at the gate
How would you feel about spontaneously stepping on a scale at the airport? For a lot of people, the number on the scale is a big deal to them. Finnish airline, Finnair, is conducting some research, and they’re asking flyers to volunteer their mass and step on a scale before boarding the plane. The goal is improve their understanding of balancing planes before takeoff. It’s not a mandatory thing, but the whole thing has caused a stir regardless. Would you step on the scale?
A Study Has Finally Revealed The Age When Most People Reach Peak Happiness And Self-Confidence
How do you feel about yourself? A study diving into happiness has found the age that people feel their highest self-confidence. Anyone who has ever battled with Father Time can attest that they wish they felt better about their younger selves. You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone, and this study says that people in their 20s and 30s battle with depression and anxiety when it comes to body image. That starts to turn around as the years go on, and the peak for happiness and self-confidence comes, on average, at age 60! So, if you’re under 60, appreciate what you’ve got, and if you’re 60 or older, flaunt what you’ve got!
Report shows alarming rise in Canadians using GoFundMe to cover living expenses
It’s been a pretty rough few years. Inflation has struck and it’s struck hard. The cost of living is constantly rising, and people aren’t making enough to keep up. That’s led to a spike in Canadians needing help covering expenses and resorting to GoFundMe. Since 2020, there’s been a 274% increase in campaigns mentioning cost of living. Between 2020 and 2023, 214,912 campaigns for Canadians struggling with living expenses have raised roughly $480,000,000 in donations. These are people asking for money to cover things like food and expenses because their pay can’t cover it. If you’re struggling, you’re not alone! You can always ask for help, even from very kind strangers on the internet!
