The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) were part of an investigation that worked to retrieve stolen vehicles that were sent to Dubai.
In 2023, the HRPS Auto Theft Task Force worked with the Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA) locally and overseas, and the Peel Regional Police Service, to intercept 24 vehicles (valued at roughly $2.1 million) before they reached their destination in Dubai.
This part of the investigation took part in Morocco, but authorities were unable to have two shipping containers carrying four vehicles turned around before reaching Dubai.
Through on-going collaboration between Canadian authorities and law enforcement in Dubai, the two containers were eventually rerouted back to Canada, and in late January 2024, HRPS investigators took custody of the two containers carrying the following four stolen vehicles:
- One Lexus SUV initially stolen from Halton
- Two Ford-150s stolen from Peel and Toronto
- One Land Rover Range Rover also stolen from Peel
The total value of the recovered vehicles is roughly $200,000, bringing the total value between the two seizures to roughly $2.3 million.
Investigation into these thefts is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Regional Auto Theft Task Force at 905-825-4777 ext. 3407.
