The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has arrested a 35-year-old man following a brief chase into Lake Ontario.
On Wednesday, December 27th, at roughly 9:30 a.m., officers received a call regarding the suspect, allegedly, in breach of court conditions and having possession of a stolen vehicle in the area of Spencer Smith Park in Burlington.
As officers arrived, the man attempted to evade police by jumping into the water and concealing himself within a pipe. With the assistance of the HRPS Tactical Unit, Hamilton Police Service’s Marine Unit, Burlington Fire Department, and Halton EMS, the individual was safely removed from the water, placed under arrest, and transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for hypothermia.
The investigation was over at roughly 12:00 p.m. and the area remains open to the public.
