Good news!
Construction went ahead of schedule for the Milton Public Library (MPL) and they will be opening their Sherwood library branch almost one month early.
The branch had closed in October to allow for upgrades and renovations. It was expected to reopen by Tuesday, January 2nd, but that deadline has moved up to Tuesday, December 12th.
A pop-up branch has been available in the meantime, located at the Sherwood Community Centre. The MPL says the pop-up will be closed on Monday, December 11th.

Be prepared: the Milton Public Library (MPL) is going to temporarily close its Sherwood Branch.
Starting Saturday, October 21st, the MPL will be doing minor renovations aimed at updating the space to accommodate new and future services. The branch is scheduled to reopen its doors on Tuesday, January 2nd, 2024, following the completion of the renovation project.
During the closure, the Milton Public Library will be setting up a temporary Pop-Up Library at the Sherwood Community Center to keep library services accessible to the community. The Pop-Up Library will be open from Tuesday, October 24th to Saturday, December 23rd. It will provide a range of essential services, including:
- Customer Service: Knowledgeable staff will be on hand to assist with inquiries and library-related matters
- Self-Printing: Patrons will still be able to access self-printing services at the Pop-Up Library
- Chromebook Lending: The library will continue to provide access to technology to its patrons with Chromebook lending
- New and Notable: Patrons can continue to discover the latest and most exciting additions to the library’s collection
- Holds Pick-Up: Patrons can also collect holds on their books at the Pop-Up Library
- Internal/External Book Drop: Patrons can return borrowed items conveniently at the Pop-Up Library during this period
The Pop-Up Library will maintain regular Sherwood branch hours of Monday through Thursday 9:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. and Friday to Sunday 9:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
“The decision to renovate the Sherwood Branch is part of Milton Public Library’s ongoing commitment to meet the changing needs of our community,” the release reads. “This renovation will not only enhance the physical space but also accommodate new and future services, making it an even more valuable resource for the patrons.”
