It was a scary Friday the 13th for the Milton Menace.
The boys couldn’t manage the comeback against the Toronto Patriots on Friday, October 13th. Coming off a 4-1 win over the Brantford 99ers the night before, the Menace were hoping to keep their winning ways going. That hope was crushed early on when netminder Ariel Zaslaver gave up four goals in the first period. The Menace were able to answer back twice, with Sett Ursomarzo and Madden MacDougall both getting the goals. Connor Driscoll, Ivan Fabjan, Aidan Taylor, and Graeme Macauley all get assists in the first period. It was 4-2 Toronto after 20-minutes.
Glen Crandall came into the game in relief for Zaslaver in the second period. He helped settle down the Menace, allowing them to launch a comeback. Aidan Puley scored his sixth of the season, assisted by MacDougall and Owen Kindree. Less than two minutes later, Ursomarzo scored his second of the game and sixth of the season to tie the game up. Alessandro Petreccia and Connor Driscoll both tallied the assists. That was high-point of the game, however, as the Patriots then scored on the powerplay, and then again late in the period to end the second frame with a 6-4 lead.
Menace Captain Connor Driscoll finally scored a goal of his own late in the third to get the boys excited, but that excitement was swept away when the Pats netted an empty netter. Toronto beat Milton 7-5.
Zaslaver faced 13 shots, stopping nine. That gave him a lowly .692% save percentage. In relief, Crandall faced 22 shots, stopping 20. That’s good for a .909% save percentage. It’s early, but the 6’5″ Crandall has been a star in net for the Menace, sporting a .920% save percentage through his first ten games this OJHL season.
The Menace will have had seven days by the time they hit the ice again for a game. They take on the Oakville Blades at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex on Friday, October 20th. Game-time is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
Milton residents can expect the next home game on Sunday, October 22nd. The Menace will take on the Toronto Patriots in a rematch from Friday the 13th.Milton Menace home tickets for this OJHL season can be found here.
