Two birds in Simcoe County have tested positive for West Nile virus.
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has indicated that one of the dead birds was found in Oro-Medonte, while the other was in Bracebridge.
This is the first lab-confirmed evidence of WNv in Simcoe Muskoka this year.
As of August 4 the health unit says no confirmed human cases of the mosquito-borne viral disease have been reported in Ontario this year.
They do however advise anyone who begins to show symptoms of West Nile Virus including fever, muscle weakness, stiff neck and a sudden sensitivity to light seek medical advice.
While most people will not become sick if bitten by an infected mosquito, the virus can cause severe illness in some people.
