Environment Canada is warning residents of hot and humid conditions.
From Wednesday, July 26th through Friday, July 28th, temperatures are expected to reach 30 degrees Celsius. Thursday, while slightly cooler, will be very humid with humidex values in the upper thirties. Friday is expected to be extremely hot with humidex values reaching 40 for many areas. Minimum temperatures in the low twenties will provide little relief from the heat. Cooler temperatures are expected Saturday.
The Halton Region has followed suit and is also warning residents of the Heat Warning.
They’ve noted that the following residents are currently at-risk:
- older adults (over the age of 65), infants and young children, people who work and exercise in the heat, people without adequate housing and those without air conditioning; and
- people who have breathing difficulties, heart problems, kidney problems or are taking medication that increase their heat-health risk.
If you’re looking for help, here are some prevention tips.
- drink plenty of cool liquids, especially water;
- avoid strenuous outdoor activities;
- seek shade from the sun;
- spend time in air-conditioned places, such as shopping malls and community centres; and
- visit friends and neighbours who may be at risk and never leave people or pets in your care unattended in a car.
