Would you like to help transform and shape what Milton’s Main Street will look like?
The Town of Milton is asking for the public’s help in redesigning Main Street East near the GO station, what the Town is calling ‘Uptown’.
“Main Street East connects Milton’s arts district in the east to its historic downtown in the west,” the Town of Milton says in a release. “It is envisioned as a landmark street and a destination within Uptown, the Milton GO Station area.”
This isn’t happening overnight. Years of work have led to this point, with the Town pointing to Milton’s Council approving policies in 2022 that tie into the area’s growth and development. That includes building heights, density, land use, parking, urban design and open space. Just recently, the sales pitch for the controversial Thompson Towers were held in the sky. The 27, 29, and 31-storey tall condo buildings will add to the area’s development.
Here are the key recommendations shared by the Town’s Mobility Hub Study for the future of Main Street East:
- Transition from an automobile-oriented street to a green corridor, supporting seamless movement between all modes of transportation and placing special priority on accessibility and safety.
- Enhance the public realm along Main Street East through widened sidewalks, cycling infrastructure and active building frontages.
- Serve as a green corridor prioritizing cyclists and pedestrians.
- Create more welcoming and functional spaces.
“Our growth strategy is defined and the area surrounding the Milton GO Station is a critical component of this,” says Milton Mayor Gord Krantz. “We want to ensure that we do it right. It’s important to understand the public vision for the area, so we can build a place that matters to the future of Milton.”

Public engagement will collect site-specific ideas about Uptown’s existing conditions and opportunities; review draft images of its potential design; and will lead to detailed study and design of Main Street East.
“We are taking important steps as a community to reshape the Milton GO Station district into a complete, accessible, and walkable community,” says Jill Hogan – Commissioner, Development Services, Town of Milton. “As we plan to make Uptown a hub of possibility, we want to welcome public input every step of the way.”
