What a start to 2023 for the Milton Menace!
The local Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) team came out of their holiday break and went into Sunday’s game hoping to get their first win of the year. The Menace had last won a game on December 14th when they beat the Georgetown Raiders 3-2.
It was the Milton Menace versus the Markham Royals at the Milton Memorial Arena on Sunday, January 8th.
Things went well for the Menace early on. Aidan Puley scored at the 3:37 mark with help from captain Owen Forester. Just over nine minutes later, Thomas Gordon made it a two-goal game with his own marker. That was assisted by Dylan McFadden and Tristan Tremble. The Royals got one back, before Aidan Hughes scored short-handed. His ‘shorty’ was assisted by Lucas Buzziol and Owen Kindree. It was 3-1 Milton after one period of play.
The second saw Buzziol get a powerplay goal, with assists from Hughes and Forester. The Royals would then get two goals, making it 4-3 after 40-minutes of action.
The final frame was all Milton. Buzziol scored another powerplay goal, assists by Forester and Hughes. Myles Perry then scored at even-strength at the 8:10 mark. It was assisted by Hughes and Buzziol. Connor Driscoll got in on the fun, with Bradley Banach and Nicholas Wereha nabbing assists. Jared Coccigmiglio then scored an eighth goal for the Menace, with Aidan Puley and Cole Semeniuk being awarded the helpers. The Menace won 8-3.
There were two netminders for the Menace on Sunday. Forbes Anderson played the majority of the game (54:14), facing 25 shots, stopping 22. That gave him a .880% save percentage. Will Goumas played just 5:46 but faced 12 shots, stopping all 12.
The Menace are now 22-10-1-2 through 35 games, giving them 47 points. That places them in fourth place in the OJHL North/West Conference. They’re next game will be on Wednesday, January 11th when they take on the Lindsay Muskies. Puck-drop will be at 7:00 p.m. at the Milton Memorial Arena.
