A bit of a rough weekend for the Milton Menace.
The team had a game against the Cobourg Cougars on Friday, December 2nd. The Cougars entered the Madhouse looking to take on a Menace team that is in a bit of a transition period following a handful of trades. Cobourg would score first, and take a 1-0 lead into the second period.
Milton would then answer 4:12 into the second frame, with Connor Driscoll scoring on the powerplay. He was assisted by newbie Jared Coccimiglio and pseudo-newbie Alessandro Petreccia. The Cougars would then take the lead shortly after with a powerplay goal, before the Menace found themselves back on the man advantage. Lucas Buzziol scored at the 14:52 mark, with help from Ivan Fabjan and captain Owen Forester. It was 2-2 after two.
The third period was all Cobourg though, as the Cougars scored three unanswered goals, two on the powerplay and one shorthanded. The Menace would score a goal late in the third with the help of an extra attacker, as Myles Perry was assisted by Petreccia and Bradley Banach. Cobourg then scored an empty-netter and added an insurance marker late on the powerplay. Cobourg beat Milton 7-3.
In net was perpetual Menace goaltender, Forbes Anderson. He stopped just 21 of 27 shots, giving him a rough looking .777% save percentage.
The Menace went into Saturday hoping to fix their penalty, and penalty-killing, issues.
That leads us to Sunday, December 4th, when the Milton Menace welcomed in the Pickering Panthers to the Milton Memorial Arena.
The game started off strong for the Menace, as Ivan Fabjan scored a pair of goals to give Milton the 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. He was assisted by Thomas Gordon and Owen Kindree on the first goal, and Justin O’Donnell and Connor Driscoll on the second, which was on the powerplay.
It took 3:19 for the Panthers to score twice in the second period to tie the game. Milton then re-gained the lead with a goal from Nicholas Wereha, assisted by Bradley Banach. Pickering then tied the game late in the third with the help from their powerplay unit. It was 3-3 after two periods of play.
It looked as if this game was going to overtime, before the Panthers scored with just 39 seconds left in the third frame. The Menace would lose 4-3 to the Pickering Panthers at home.
In net was Will Goumas. He stopped 16 of 20 shots, giving him an even .800% save percentage.
The pair of losses this past weekend put the Milton Menace at 19-7-1-2 over 29 games, giving them 41 points. They remain second in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) North/West Conference behind the Collingwood Blues.
The Milton Menace next play on Friday, December 9th. They take on the Oakville Blades at home at the Milton Memorial Arena. Puck-drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Milton Menace home tickets for this OJHL season can be foundĀ here.
