The Milton Menace will need to get their mojo back after losing for a second straight game this past weekend.
The Menace suffered their first loss in regulation more than a week ago when the Wellington Dukes beat them 3-2. On Friday, October 28th, the Menace took on the Aurora Tigers at home and looked to rebound from that defeat.
The Tigers took the early lead when they scored in the first period. It was 1-0 Aurora after one period of play.
Milton then tied the game when captain Owen Forester scored on the powerplay. His goal was assisted by Aidan Hughes. That tie was short lived though, as just over three minutes later, the Tigers took the lead right back. It was 2-1 after 40-minutes.
The Tigers then scored the insurance marker in the third, and the Menace lost the game 3-1.
Will Goumas was in net for the Menace, according to the box score. He faced 20 shots and stopped only 17 for a save percentage of .850%.
The Menace then faced the Stouffville Spirit at home during a special themed ‘Halloween Hockey’ night on Sunday, October 30th.
Milton was hoping to snap a then two-game losing streak, and it didn’t start off well. The Spirit scored eight minutes into the game to go up 1-0. That woke the Menace up though, as Lucas Buzziol potted a goal just 20 seconds later. It was assisted Justin O’Donnell and Aidan Hughes. It was a 1-1 game after one.
Milton then took the lead in the second period with Owen Kindree scored a goal 6:01 into the frame. It was assisted by Dylan McFadden and Blake Riddall. Connor Driscoll made it a two-goal game when he scored a minute later. His goal was assisted by Luca Rea And Myles Perry. It was 3-1 after two periods, and that wound up as the final score.
In net was Christian Trianni. He stopped 21 of 22 shots for a .954% save percentage.
The good news is that, despite the two losses in three games, the Menace seem to be consistently outshooting other teams by a wide margin. It’s a lazy way to analyze puck possession, but it’s a good marker when it’s nearly every game. The team should be alright, and it just happened to be a short two-game skid.
The Milton Menace are now 14-2-0-1 through 17 games, good for 29 points this season. They sit in first of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) North/West Conference.
Their next game is on Friday, November 4th when they take on the Pickering Panthers. The last time these two teams played, the Menace beat the Panthers 4-1 on Friday, October 14th. Trianni was credited with the win on the box score. He had 32 saves on 33 shots, good for a .969% save percentage. Puck-drop on Friday is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Milton Memorial Arena.
