A late third period comeback was too much for the Milton Menace to handle.
The Menace came into Monday afternoon with an undefeated record. They were on their way to maintaining that record before a late-game collapse led to an overtime loss to the Collingwood Blues at the OJHL Governors’ Showcase in Cobourg.
The game started off with Collingwood scoring first. Before the end of the first period, Aidan Hughes would score for the Menace to make it 1-1 after 20. The goal was assisted by Dylan McFadden and Captain Owen Forester.
The second period was scoreless between the two teams.
Milton then started off strong in the third. Thomas Gordon would take the lead with his goal just five minutes into the final regulated period. Ben Hofstetter and Blade Riddall got the assists. Seven minutes later, Aidan Puley made it a two goal game, with help from Forester.
Then came the collapse. With extra attackers, Collingwood would score back-to-back goals. The first came with just more than two minutes left. The Blues would then tie the game with one second left on the clock. They then won the game just one minute into overtime. 4-3 Blues.
Will Goumas was tasked with the goaltending job. He faced 29 shots and ended up with 25 saves, good for an .862 save percentage.
The Menace are now 3-0-0-1 in four games played. They’re second in the North/West Conference behind an undefeated Blues team. They’re back on the ice Tuesday at the OJHL Governors’ Showcase in Cobourg. They take on the Pickering Panthers. Game-time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. They return to the Milton Memorial Arena on Sunday with a game against Brantford. Milton Menace home tickets for this OJHL season can be found here.
