Could you and a friend do 3500 burpees?
That’s what two coaches at FirePower CrossFit will be doing Saturday, June 11th. They’re doing it to raise money for Halton Women’s Place. One of the coaches, Tonya Link, says they’re hoping to match or exceed the $6000 they had previously raised.

She adds that her and Yvonne (the other coach taking part) both feel that Halton Women’s Place provides an excellent service to the community and they want to support the organization as much as possible.
According to an article written by a descendent of the man the burpee is named after, Royal H. Burpee (no, seriously – that was the man’s actual name), a burpee is described as, “standing tall, squat down low, shift your weight to your hands and jump your feet back to a plank — the starting position for a push-up — then jump your feet forward again between your hands, and stand back up.” It adds that a basic CrossFit burpee includes, “a push-up in the middle and a jump at the end.”
Link says they’re ready for the challenge.
She remembers the event in 2020 and says their recovery will likely be a week. She says their appetites will likely be high and they’ll be craving lots of carbs and protein to get over the soreness.
If you’d like to get involved, you can show up on the day and donate. The gym is collecting cash, gift cards, and accepting donations via e-transfer (equipment11@hotmail.com) to raise as much money as possible.
The fundraiser is taking place Saturday, June 11th from 8:00 a.m. until whenever the pair reach a collective 3600 burpees. It will be at the new FirePower CrossFit location at 290 Bronte Street South in Milton.
