A local family business has made a hit!
The Fraser Beverage Company, as part of Harvest Goodies and Wheelbarrow Orchards, is making a new drink. It’s a flavoured sparkling water – called Spark. Peter Fraser explains how they came up with the idea.
They have four different flavours:
- Strawberry Rhubarb;
- Blueberry Raspberry;
- Cherry; and,
- Lemon Honey.
Fraser says the flavours are all inspired by the different locations they source out to. For instance, if the market had a farm that grew cherries, they’d likely sell the cherry-flavoured Spark.
Wheelbarrow Orchards is home to Harvest Goodies, a food processing company. They create preserves like jams, jellies, and dressings, and even bake pies in house. They have their own market on the property, but they also sell these products to other markets within Ontario to help fill their shelves.
It’s also an apple orchard that allows residents to pick fresh apples. Fraser says the apple picking season is going really well, even if it’s going to be short this year.
The COVID-19 pandemic had some significant silver-linings for the Fraser conglomerate of businesses. Last year was the apple orchard’s most successful year, with many residents looking for something local to do with friends that was also outdoors. Similarly, other markets across the province saw an increase in demand, which in turn, provided Harvest Goodies with more business. And now with Spark and their original cider, the Fraser Beverage Company is establishing its own niche in the family.
As Fraser said, Wheelbarrow Orchards will be open to apple picking on Thanksgiving weekend. It’s a fun and easy-going activity that welcomes all ages. You can find the farm at 8277 10 Side Road in Milton, just off Highway 25. There is a fee to go apple picking, but there is no admission fee needed to browse the market, which has plenty of freshly picked apples and cans of Spark.
