Are you curious about where Milton’s candidates in next week’s federal election stand on certain topics?
The Halton Region was as well, and so on September 1st, it sent out a questionnaire to all five candidates asking them where they stand on a number of important issues for Halton residents. The questionnaire asked candidates what they would do to:
- provide increased financial support for municipalities through the Gas Tax and as needed to support essential Regional programs, services and infrastructure projects;
- deliver long-term sustainable, allocation-based funding to support affordable housing;
- ensure there is an effective national early learning and childcare strategy as well as funding to support municipalities in effectively delivering this service;
- support municipalities in building resilient communities and mitigating the effects of climate change;
- expedite the delivery of affordable access to broadband internet services for all of Halton; and
- support Halton’s position on the CN truck-rail hub in Milton.
Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr was appreciative of the candidates responding.
“Thank you to all candidates who shared their positions on Halton’s issues of importance for Regional Council and those living in Halton. Their responses will help our community understand how their platforms align with resident priorities for our future. I encourage residents to learn where candidates stand on these important issues so they can make an informed vote. I hope everyone who is eligible to cast their ballot will take the time to do so on or before September 20.”
