A Milton teenager could end up as the next big thing.
15-year-old Gabriela Verdugo released her song Finish Strong earlier this summer and has already received some press for it. Speaking with FM101 Milton, she says she began writing the song in November 2020 based on what was affecting her real life.
From a young age, Verdugo was looking up to singing legends like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Alicia Keys. It’s also not hard to see comparisons to the fastest rising star in music, Olivia Rodrigo. Verdugo says that she is definitely following the career of Rodrigo closely, but personally gets her inspiration from another Canadian, Shawn Mendes.
When looking at her burgeoning career, the Milton District High School student says she’s already looking at post-secondary school. Right now, she has her eyes set on Humber College for their music program. She says she’d like to go wherever her music takes her.
