Incumbent Milton MP Adam van Koeverden has opened his campaign office.
He invited the station to attend the opening on Friday evening.
We asked what he’s fighting for this time around. He dove right into his campaign.
While shortened with the upcoming election, van Koeverden is coming off of his first term as a Member of Parliament for the Canadian House of Commons. It’ll be just under two-years of service come time for the election. In those two years, he says he’s learned the value in listening, adding that a lot of politicians like to talk.
He believes that co-op housing is a realistic possibility to achieve in Milton in the coming years, should he be voted back into the position of MP. He says he was a part of a roundtable several weeks ago discussing co-op housing that was moderated by Chrystia Freeland. He adds that, roughly one year ago, Prime Minister Trudeau invited him to be part of a working group for homelessness and housing affordability. He says that helped lead to Milton being a part of the ‘first time home buyer incentive’.
The office can be found at 196 Main Street East in Milton, right next to Bergsma’s Paint & Decor. You can also send him an email at info@voteavk.ca. You can also find him on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
If you’re looking for other federal election coverage, we reported the PPC’s new candidate for Milton on Monday.
We’re waiting to hear back from Milton Conservative candidate Nadeem Akbar for more on his campaign, as well as his campaign office (which is noticeably located on Main Street East near St. Paul’s United Church).
There are still no reports on a candidate for the NDP here in Milton – same goes for the Green Party. That could change in the coming days as the federal election coverage ramps up. In 2019, the two parties were represented by Farina Hassan (NDP) and Eleanor Hayward (Green).
