A 14-year-old Brampton boy is dead after reportedly drowning in the Credit River.
The Halton Regional Police Service says the boy was found near MacNab Park in Norval. Witnesses say the boy was jumping off the Adamson Street North bridge with friends when he drowned. The HRPS says this happened at roughly 5:00 p.m. on Friday night. Police and paramedics were called to the scene, where witnesses and friends were performing life saving measures. The teen was rushed to Georgetown Hospital and did not survive.
Investigators from Halton Police Service One District Criminal Investigation Unit, Forensic Identification Unit and Regional Marine Unit attended to assist in the investigation of the incident and identification of the youth. The Coroner’s Office was called to the scene to assist in the investigation. Police are not releasing the youth’s name or identifying information at this time.
The HRPS has issued a reminder to the public, with an emphasis on young people, to be safe around the Region’s waterways and pools. “Know your limits, play responsibly and respect the water,” it adds.
